1st Birthday Zoom Box

When KOWE Alumni, Christine and Derek call you to plan their twin’s first virtual party in under a month, you know you have to BRING IT! #BrowesAreNeverBasic

We used their theme idea of an Elephant and Giraffe to represent each baby. Charlotte the elephant and Jack the Giraffe. Knowing their parents, it had to be a cool elephant and giraffe – more of a mid-century modern vibe. Thanks to Life of the Party, Brittany, was able to bring the vision to life and we were able to use the design through the event!

Each guest of the Zoom party received in the mail a curated birthday box including some really fun items. Custom giraffe and elephant cookies from Buttercup Cookies that perfectly matched the theme.

Keep scrolling to see some of the fun stuff we incorporated into the boxes!

At Christine and Derek’s home (in Long Island), we had to create the perfect birthday backdrop for the Zoom! We called Hampton Balloons to create an organic balloon garland to frame the babies in their highchairs. And used the giraffe/elephant design as a banner behind the high chairs.

The Zoom celebration was so special and the boxes really made them feel as if they were all together.  Although this pandemic is causing us to spend more time apart there are still creative ways to make these moments memorable.

Thank you to the amazing vendors that made it happen!

Introducing the Kenmore Ballroom!

Today we are introducing you to the new, beautiful Kenmore Ballroom!

We welcome this brand new classically modern event & wedding venue to Downtown Albany on North Pearl Street!  The transformational investment in Albany by Redburn Development Partners to create new residential and commercial spaces from historic properties was the perfect opportunity to reintroduce a glamorous event space that once was hosted by stars like Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman & the Dorsey Brothers! We are beyond excited to be a part of this restoration and can’t wait for you to see it for yourself.

THEN…

Built between 1876 and 1878, The Kenmore was one of the finest hotels in Albany, NY. The Rain-Bo Room, where our ballroom is today, was a favorite spot of Babe Ruth and Legs Diamond and had some infamous legends enjoy its time!

There is nothing richer than being able to restore history, and the Kenmore Ballroom is just that!  This renovation was much more than a fresh coat of paint or a set of new furniture.  There’s a defined purpose behind every beam, chandelier, gold detail & fixture. Historic Kenmore’s modern design, combined with its rich, 100+ year history provides an authentic, yet contemporary canvas for your momentous wedding or intimate affair.

VS. NOW

The new Kenmore Ballroom is a modern setting of remarkable luxury, warmth and elegance with architectural details that lean towards the 1920’s and 30’s in attitude and aesthetic.

The Historic Kenmore Ballroom oversees Albany’s famous North Pearl Street, giving that city street curb appeal and elegant touch.  With over 15,000 square feet, there are so many unique photo opportunities such as the breathtaking grand staircase descending from a generously sized mezzanine level to a parquet covered ballroom fitted with natural colors and soft lighting.

The beautiful staircase & chandelier are just one of our favorite areas that provide a one-of-a-kind backdrop for the reception of your dreams!  Take a look at some sneak peeks of this polished & one-of-a-kind venue!

The bridal suite features a gorgeous, floral wallpaper perfect for getting ready photos! The rooftop terrace overlooking downtown and the Hudson River is the ideal setting to share your first look, or a romantic toast after the ceremony with your loved one.

The lounge welcomes guests with an indoor fountain (be sure to make a wish!), a sophisticated 26-foot quartz and leather bar and ambient lighting . Additionally, there is a boardroom available for smaller private meetings. The kitchen is accessible via lift from street level on the Chapel Street side of the building.  The Kenmore Ballroom will be an “open-house” for preferred caterers vetted and approved by the management. Our current list includes: Mazzone Catering, 2Shea Catering, Nicole’s Catering & Old Daley Catering.  The capacity across the two main levels total 300 seated & 500 cocktail style.

The Katie O’ team is available for planning and coordination services on-site at the Kenmore Ballroom for an additional fee. We are offering special “introductory” pricing for couples who book services at the Kenmore Ballroom for remaining 2020 dates and through 2021.

We are so excited to welcome back this historic venue to Downtown Albany and create memories that will last a lifetime in this new space! For more details on hosting your wedding or event at our venue, visit https://thekenmoreballroom.com

Bridal Q&A: Moe & Mike

The Katie O team has worked on countless weddings, but one that stands out to us is the wedding of Moe and Mike! The couple got married on June 3rd, 2017 at the Integra Optics Airplane Hangar 202 in Albany, New York. Right from the start, Moe and Mike trusted the Katie O’ team 100%. As a result, we were able to create the most beautiful and detail-oriented wedding that was sparkly and totally them!

Moe is a full time Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) with a hobby of flying! Her dad also shared a passion for flying, and since the couple loved to travel, the location held extra importance to her and her now husband! From their cake to the escort cards, there were little nods to aviation throughout the day that made their wedding personal to them and their love of adventure!

We had so much fun on their big day that we wanted to catch up with Moe to relive some of the magic. Moe – thank you so much for taking the time to tell us about your wedding and how the Katie O’ team made it special!

Q: Tell us a little bit about your special day!

A: A “little” bit- I could go on and on. We got married at a hanger at Albany International on a beautiful June day.

Q: Why did you hire Katie O’Events?

A: I needed help with all the little details I didn’t know I needed help with.

Q: What was the best moment of your wedding day?

A: Our first look!

Q: What are two things you couldn’t live without (vendors, decor, it could be anything!)

A: Katie O. And Mazzone’s…. and DJ MoStyles

Q: What are 1-2 things you COULD live without on your wedding day?

A: Good question! The wedding ceremony program!

Q: How did Katie O’ Events help you plan your special day?

A: She helped 100% with contracts. Arranging meetings with all kinds of vendors, suggesting vendors, what you need and don’t need for the wedding, dealing with a misguided stepmother in law with an ugly outfit on…. just to name a few. Oh and the point person at the venue site- who couldn’t find the contract- I didn’t have to stress much because Katie was the go-between.

Q: What are some things you loved about having Katie O/Casey and her team by your side?

A: Their personal approach to dealing with us and our family.

Q: If you could give one couple a piece of advice, what would it be?

A: Hire Katie O for the complete package!

A Difficult Time For 2020 Couples

As wedding planners we see a lot. We see months of planning, securing dream venues, confirming vendors, booking hotel blocks, arranging transportation and creating the timeline to build the dream day. Honestly, right now it is difficult to see straight and we wanted to let you all know that we see you and we are here for you.

We see…

The bride who put her heart, soul and endless hours into planning her dream wedding.

The groom who was anxiously awaiting the chance to watch his bride walk down the aisle.

The mother of the bride or groom who is staying strong for her daughter or son but inside feels stress and sadness for their “baby.”

The bride / groom who waited years for their marriage to be legal who now has to wait even longer to marry their partner.

The parents of the flower girl who need to explain to her why she doesn’t get to wear the pretty dress and drop the flowers.

The photographer who shared a memorable engagement shoot with their couple and couldn’t wait to get them in front of the camera again.

The band leader who knew that their client’s wedding was going to be an amazing dance party.

The hair & make-up artists who provided an amazing trial for their bride and made her feel “perfect & ready for her big day.”

The sales / venue manager who toured a couple and their parents through the venue of their dreams and couldn’t wait for the day to arrive.

The chef & catering team who created one of the most amazing, delicious and creative menus for a couple who was willing to take the culinary risk.

The videographer who is maybe grateful to have more time to catch up on editing but would much rather be shooting a new celebration.

The florist who was prepared to locate the perfect blooms to create their clients’ dream bouquet.

The rental company owner who is juggling inventory trying to keep everyone happy and still make their client’s dream come true.

The officiant who listened and learned the love story of their couple and spent time writing the perfect ceremony to reflect this.

The stationery designer who created the most perfect and personalized invitation suite that is currently “waiting” in the box to be mailed.

The wedding planner and her team who have been there through it all. You have felt all of the feelings, not only for yourself, your team and your family…but for your couples. Your instinct is to fix it, move it and plan to make it better. You are faced with a level of uncertainty that drives you mad. You can’t guarantee anything right now and it is frustrating. But, we can guarantee love. We will see their love stories come to life on another day, possibly another year…but it will happen. You will make it happen. That’s what you do…you make dreams come true…no matter the obstacles that might be in your way.

Stay strong…we see you and we are here for you.
