Katie O's 12 Days of Sparkle: Day 12 – Grateful

Here we are–the 12th and final day of Katie O's 12 Days of Sparkle! I hope you have all had fun reading up on some of my holiday favorites! We love to share the sparkle whenever we can and truly appreciate and recognize the importance of supporting local small businesses.

Our last day, however, is not about a favorite place to pick up a sparkly gift or dine on delicious food. I wanted to take a minute to reflect on the past year and all the joy and love it has brought me and my family.

2014 has been one of the most memorable years for me both personally and professionally. I became a “Mrs.” on 3.14.14 and completed my 5th year in business. These are two of my biggest accomplishments to date and I feel extremely blessed and grateful to have shared so many of these moments with all of you.

Through this blog I have shared wedding planning tips and advice, but also plenty about my personal life. I believe that it is important for you to know the real me. The not always sparkly me, but the wife…the sister…the friend…the lifemaid, and the business owner, too.

In this somewhat scary world where we have witnessed so much tragedy and strife on a global, national and local level, please know I wish only the best for you all this holiday season.

I wish you faith; the kind that brings peace to your heart, clarity to your mind and serenity to your soul.

I wish you hope; the kind that helps to keep you going even when the days seem tough.

And I wish you love; the kind that lifts you up and makes you sparkle.

We're all reminded during the holiday season to enjoy the magic and treasure the greatest gifts of all–family, friends and loved ones. Please hold all of them and squeeze them tight!

From Team KOWE and Team Maloney we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Sparkling New Year!

Katie O' 12 Days of Sparkle: Day 11- Buttermilk Chicken Sliders at One Six Five

Day 11 is all about Buttermilk Chicken! The best comfort food to help take the anxiety out of the holidays and add a sparkle to your belly. Take a break from all the hustle and bustle and visit our friends at One Six Five at Normanside Country Club. Chef Ken Ruud has put the most amazing Buttermilk Chicken Sliders on their menu…as is everything we have tasted from this talented chef’s kitchen!  The chicken is perfectly seasoned, crispy and moist! We served them at Katie O’s 5th Birthday Celebration last month and I can’t stop thinking about them or all the compliments our guests had about our “biscuit bar” featuring these yummy treats along with crispy prosciutto and a color wheel full of other fun toppings.

As amazing and as comforting as Chef Ken’s Buttermilk Chicken, is the hospitality of the team at One Six Five.  Managing Partner, Dave Hostig, understands this business and knows the customer comes first. He has built an exceptional team that thrives on this principle.  His dedicated staff (especially Ricky, Mo and ReBecca) make you feel welcomed and appreciated- which can be hard to find at other establishments. The simplest act of remembering a frequent patron’s name can mean the difference between returning to enjoy future meals or heading somewhere else.  Here is a pic of their AWARD winning “NormanSlider” from the “2014 Slider Slam”  – they do sliders right at One Six Five- this is for sure!

These guys offer happy hour with a variety of small plate offerings starting at $4 is between 4 pm and 7 pm.  Go try some sliders (pair it with a Harpoon Winter Warmer) along with one of their drink specials to wash it down! Don’t be shy about the “country club” moniker in their name,  they are open to the public. Everyone is welcome at One Six Five!

Katie O's 12 Days of Sparkle: Day 10 – Krause's Homemade Candy

Day 10 brings us to one of the sweetest spots in the Capital Region…Krause's Homemade Candy in Colonie! Walking into Krause's you're sort of transported to what a modern day, non-1970s version of Willy Wonka and the Chololate Factory…and it smells incredible!

Krause's Homemade Candy has been in the candy business since 1929…while the family has roots downstate and in the Hudson Valley, Krause's Homemade Candy was opened in Albany in 1986 on Central Ave near W Lawrence Ave. In 1999 they moved further west out Central Ave to their current location to handle the increasing popularity of their delicious chocolates and treats.

For the holidays, they have chocolate gifts for Christmas and Chanukah and some great stocking stuffers, too! And a box of assorted chocolates makes for a great hostess gift, too!

While Krause's is great for sweet treats for various holidays throughout the year, it's also great for shower and wedding favors. Their chocolate covered strawberries are perfection and they also have chocolate covered frozen bananas during the summer.

All I can say is that it's good I don't live too close to Krause's…I would be spending double the time in the gym!

Stop by Krause's at 1609 Central Avenue or follow them on Facebook!

Katie O's 12 Days of Sparkle: Day 9 – Frank Adams Jewelers

It's day 9 of my 12 Days of Sparkle…THREE more days left! Today we're bringing the real sparkle to you with a post about our friends at Frank Adams Jewelers.

Franks Adams has been a fixture in the Capital Region since 1922 which is really quite incredible. They began as a watch repair shop and have become one of the most respected jewelers around.

Part of what I really like about Frank Adams Jewelers is how welcoming and friendly they are when you walk through the doors. You're greeted almost immediately with a smile and their staff are at the ready to help whether you're browsing, having a piece repaired, or just getting a new battery for your watch.

Frank Adams also has an impressive collection of jewelry designers like Ippolita and David Yurman to Pandora and Michele and more. Lots of sparkle…so much sparkle!

Obviously, a gift from Frank Adams may cost you more, but don't be too dissuaded; I'm sure the staff at Frank Adams can find the perfect gift for any budget!

Frank Adams Jewelers is located in Stuyvesant Plaza and can be found on Facebook, too.
