Unexpected Fall Bouquets

“Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.” –Albert Camus

I LOVE that quote–maybe I like it so much because of where I live, but the fall in upstate New York and New England just can't be beat.

With the leaves turning gold, bright red and orange, it's natural that fall brides will follow nature's lead with deep, rich colors. And while that's a great look (and very timeless) I always appreciate when a bride does something a little off the beaten path and unexpected.

I think it's important for couples to remember that, regardless of the season, pick what you like and what feels right. That being said, if you want peonies in December be prepared to pay…seasonal flowers will always save you a bit (those smart summer brides–getting married when the flowers are in bloom)!

Check out these unexpected bouquets that these fall brides chose (one September bride and two October)!

Vendor Spotlight: Andrew Franciosa Studio

It's been a little while since we did a vendor spotlight here on the KOWE blog and I've been meaning to show some love for one of the emerging young photographers in the Capital Region, so today I present Andrew Franciosa Studio!

For many of us in the Capital Region wedding biz Andrew is a familiar face. He's spent a few years at one of the larger wedding photography studios in the area honing his craft and capturing some incredible images. As part of our “five year anniversary” prep, I wanted to put the focus on an up and coming business to not only show my support for it, but to also bring awareness to a photographer that's just starting out in a very talented field of local photographers.

In the past, when there were fewer options for couples, finding the perfect photographer could be difficult. But now, with people like Andrew, I can recommend more photographers with total confidence that they'll capture a wedding, engagement, or other life event flawlessly. And although he hasn't been out on his own for very long, Andrew has an impressive resume–he's worked a lot of weddings and knows the ins and outs of a wedding day.Andrew Franciosa Katieo 0003And, as a planner, I really appreciate Andrew's attitude and approach when it comes to his clients. More than anything (and this is super important, especially for photographers) he wants to make sure that his clients are comfortable and want to work with him. He puts no pressure on potential clients (as it should be) to make a rash or rush decision. If it's meant to be, it's meant to be. Honestly, I wish more couples would adopt this philosphy during the wedding planning process!

I can't recommend Andrew enough and we look forward to working with him in the future! Check out these gorgeous images from Andrew Franciosa Studio and be sure to wander over to his website and Facebook page, too!

2014…a BIG Year for KOWE!

As you probably know (because we're excited and shouting from the blog (roof) tops), 2014 marks the five year anniversary for Katie O' Weddings and Events. And as much as we're looking forward to celebrating our anniversary, 2014 has been a pretty big year for other reasons. The biggest being the weddings of TWO KOWE all stars…Nate and I and one of my senior coordinators, Jillian and her now husband Greg.

To say the last year or so has been even more wedding focused is a huge understatement when both you and one of your best friend's are getting married! I've said it before, but it's worth repeating–I LOVE weddings, but planning my own big day along with a friend / coworker put the whole new spin on the process.

Katie Jill

As we went along on our respective planning journies, it was so interesting to see / hear / experience the ups and downs of the process…wedding planning can be so different for everyone! There is no right or wrong way to do it. It was also super helpful to have a dedicated ear to gush about my feelings about the decisions that I feel like I've made a million times, yet I was suddenly making for the first time. To be fair, all of my lifemaids were amazingly supportive…but it was nice to have a friend in the trenches, so to speak.

So as we inch closer to the end of the year, I'm so thankful that Jillian and I both became a “Mrs.” in 2014. I was elated to have her by my side on 03.14.14 and I was so honored to be her bridesmaid on 09.06.14. Now that our weddings are over, we approach our KOWE duties with a new enthusiam and sparkle!
