Au Revoir, to our AMAZING intern Kelly!

From Katie: Today we have a guest post from our outgoing intern, Kelly! Kelly started with KOWE in April and has been an incredible addition to the KOWE team. We've LOVED having her here and we're all going to miss her SO MUCH! But now we have another great reason to visit France and Kelly has lots of reasons to come back to the Capital Region to visit, too!

My name is Kelly Crisinel-Andreo; I'm 20 years old and I'm currently in business school in France (where I'm from). This year I had the chance to do a 4 month, full-time internship with Katie O’ Weddings and Events in the United States.

Internships abroad are a 2nd year requirement at my school. With one of my best friends living in Scotia, NY, she offered me a place to stay if I found an internship in the area. I decided to search online all the wedding planners around Scotia and sent my resume to all of them, hoping that one would at least interview me and see how motivated I was. AND KATIE O'MALLEY DID! After a Skype interview and several emails from me, I reminded her that I was still very interested and motivated to work with her…and she finally hired me as “the French intern.” She never suspected that I was going to become her “Frenchie!”

When I first entered in the studio, Katie immediately welcomed me and integrated me into the wonderful and amazing Katie O’ team! I had the chance to directly follow her everywhere, at every meeting and consultation, observing and learning as much as I could to really be involved as soon as possible. In time, she gave me little projects to work on, updates to do on itineraries, start or break down a binder, check the emergency kit and, finally, I ended up helping her with everything that I could do. Besides all the office work, I also had the chance to work on almost every wedding day from April to August, and learned A LOT about how to run a wedding! I also learned how to handle the unexpected, how to deal with people, and how to always do our best so that their wedding day is the happiest day of the life of our clients!

Two frenchies!

I could speak about my experience at KOWE for hours, but if I have to describe it in three words, they would be:

  1. Learning. I have learned more and more about being a wedding planner everyday. I've learned how to deal with people; to speak English better (because it was easy to speak it everyday); what it's like working a full-time job, and having responsibilities. But, above all, I learned about myself and what kind of life I want to live.
  2. Fun. This was one of the most fun experiences I have ever had and I was happy to go to work or to a wedding every day. Even if I knew I was going to be tired, I also knew I would always laugh throughout the day.
  3. And finally, Katie O’Malley. Katie is the reason why my internship was enriching and fun! She always took time for me, to explain or review things with me, she did everything to make it the best experience possible for me. After it all, she was more than just “the boss,” she became my friend.

It wasn’t fun all the time–sometimes because of the weather (and especially this season–so much rain!), sometimes because of people, sometimes because, after a 12 hour day, you are just tired, sometimes just because you weren’t in the mood, or because living this far away from your family and friends is not always easy. But today, after 4 months and 11 weddings, the only thing that comes to mind is how enriching, fun, and sparkling was this experience for me.

I will never forget this experience and I will be forever grateful to have had to chance to live it. I would like to thank the following people for being the reason for my happiness here in New York:

– Elizabeth Ann DeFazio, Kelly Hammond, Jillian DeGregorio, Chelsea Baratto, Megan Wolszczak, Veronica Young, and Ana Puritano from the Katie O’Team;

– JP Elario, Joe Elario, and  Hayden Yund from Elario Photography and Kris Ann Elario from the Fleurtacious family;

– Ginni O’Malley, Robert O’Malley, and Nate (O’)Maloney for being my American O’Family;

– All the happy KOWE couples that I loved working for;

– And KATIE O’MALLEY for being the BEST BOSS I will ever have in my entire life!

Ne cessez jamais de briller (Keep Sparkling)–

Kelly Crisinel-Andreo – aka “FRENCHIE”

From Katie: So now I'm officially in tears! Kelly has demonstrated hard-work, dedication, and enthusiam since she walked into the studio four months ago. I've come to appreciate her contributions to the business as an intern and, most importantly, to my life as a friend. We wish you all the luck in the world, Kelly, and remember to share the sparkle wherever you go!

 Bon voyage, cher ami! XOXO

(oh, and how awesome is “keep sparkling” translated into French?!)

Fun Gift Ideas for Your Bridesmaids!

Hello, friends! Wow, what a weekend–the weather was (mostly) perfect and we had a super sparkly and emotional wedding (on many levels) this past Saturday at the Canfield Casino. It was also our last wedding with our AMAZING intern, Kelly (aka “Frenchie” because she’s from France)! I’m getting emotional thinking about it, but she’s been an incredible addition to the KOWE team and we’re going to miss her SO MUCH! Let me tell you, our next intern has some big shoes to fill!

But we’re back on the blog and how better to set your week off then with a fun post for the brides out there looking for some great gift ideas for their bridesmaids!

The first item I want to share will come in handy for those couples who are recently engaged and want a special way to ask someone to be a part of their bridal party. The Pink Orange has designed these elegant and simple cards for brides (or grooms) to assemble their bridal party–I don’y know about you, but I LOVE sending and receiving cards, so I really like this! I’ve recently seen a lot of brides give their bridesmaids kimonos–I think that this is not only a great gift, but it’s super comfortable to wear while you’re getting ready and it makes for some amazing pictures! Check out this image of recent Katie O’ bride, Kat, and her maids. Awesome–I love all of the color!

Tote bags are also a great (and functional) gift for bridal attendants. Katie O’ bride, Carloyn, gave her maid of honor (and her Mom and herself) these fun tote bags. I really like the color and script on these totes!

I found a similar suite of bags over on Etsy from a shop called Dance on the Table. You can either buy these individually or as a set! Not as colorful, but definitely cute (and you can have fun filling them with goodies)!

We also LOVE to support local business and right here in Latham, NY you can shop for som fun gifts at Clearly Yours, located in Newton Plaza.  Check out some of the fun items we found on a recent visit…

A lot of brides love the personalized hanger for wedding day!  It can be customized just for you!

Another unique and fun idea are customized monogramed iPhone cases for your girls…

Last, this super simple and sweet knot ring is from Philadelphia based designer, Bario Neal. I love, love, love the rose gold (but it  comes in yellow gold and silver, too).

Being a bridesmaid isn’t easy these days–so a nice gift is a great way to show your attendants how much you appreciate their time and dedication to your wedding. Would you consider any of these gifts for your maids? If you’re already married, what did you give your bridal party? Let me know in the comments!

Fall 2013 Internship with Katie O' Weddings and Events!

Hey, friends! As you may know, I have a team of sparkle-laden awesomeness that helps keep the KOWE ship up and running. And to help give back and get some extra help, I LOVE having interns! You may remember a post from earlier this year from our intern, Sarah! We've had a few interns over the years and I've had such great experiences with them–if you know anyone looking, please share this information with them!

165561 478889552413 1738888 N

Believe it or not, it’s not all fun and games around here! We work (we work hard) and, as an intern, you will have to do the “not-so-fun stuff” like organizing, filing, making calls,and shopping. Our goal for any intern is to provide real-life work experience and as many learning opportunities as possible. You will gain valuable experience and learn if this is the field for you.

Description of Duties:

We're seeking an intern(s) to support KOWE staff in all areas of design, planning, and coordinating events, especially weddings. Intern will be involved in researching and networking alongside the owner/lead event planner. Intern may also be asked to accompany lead planner on any events during internship period to assist with the set up, tear down, and execution of any weddings or events, as needed. Intern would also assist head planner with day-to-day office duties which includes, but is not limited to: communications (clients and vendors); contract review; database entry; day-of wedding assistance; venue / site visits; client meetings, etc. Hours will vary, but a committment of 15-20 hours per week is required.

First and foremost, the ideal candidate will have a passion for weddings with a fun and outgoing perspective. Strong organizational skills, an ability to accept and handle responsbilities in a mature fashion, excellent communication / inter-personal skills, and basic computer skills (MS Office, social media) are a must. Some event planning experience is preferred, but not required.

Worth Noting:

  • This is an UNPAID position. It is best suited for someone working towards a college degree and who will receive credit for the hours or for someone wanting to break into the wedding/event field.

  • I said it once, but I'll say it again, the ideal candidate MUST be fun, energetic, organized, detail oriented, creative and patient. If this is not you- please look into other intern opportunities.

  • You must have reliable transportation.

  • You must have some availability on weekends (specific dates TBD).

  • You must sparkle.

Still Interested?

Yay! Please send a cover letter and resume to: assistant@katieoevents.com and please put “Fall 2013 Internship (and your name)” in the subject line!

It's Party Time…Saratoga Style!

It's post time…and party time! Anyone who lives in the Capital Region knows that tag line, right? Once June rolls around the commercials for Saratoga Race Course begin and there's a change in the air as everyone gets excited for the summer place to be!

But those of us in the wedding business spend a lot of time in Saratoga year round. It's an immensely popular wedding destination for a variety of reasons. You've seen the Hall of Springs, part of Saratoga Spa State Park, and the Mansion Inn of Saratoga featured here on the Katie O' blog, the Canfield Casino, Saratoga National, and the Saratoga Polo Grounds are also super popular. Today we're going to highlight a few quintessential Saratoga weddings (and an engagement shoot) as the 150th racing season is now underway!

And we're off (sorry, I couldn't help myself)!

This image from Biz and Micah's Fasig-Tipton wedding (which was also featured in the spring 2013 issue of Martha Stewart Weddings) is classic Saratoga! Note the name above the stable, too. Awesome.

And how about the cufflinks that Micah wore? So fitting!

And to top it all off, Sam the Bugler was there to usher guests into dinner. FB0092 5042

I love, love, love this image from Melissa and Andrew's engagement shoot at the track (remember, you should probably have an e-shoot) by our friends from Elario Photography. Melissaandrew 318 Edit

These next few photos by Niki Rossi Photography are from Carolyn and Joshua's 2013 Saratoga Polo Grounds wedding. Their wedding was classic and elegant. Kris Ann Elario and her team from Fleurtacious Designs did an incredible job with the flowers and decor. I love the yellow!

Last, Terri and Matt hit up the Saratoga Race Course for some photos before heading to Saratoga National for their wedding reception. What an awesome image of the entire bridal party with the grandstand in the background!

And to put you further in the Saratoga spirit, be sure to check out Joe Elario's (aka “Big Joe”) blog post on the historic race course–his perspective is so unique and he truly captures the essence of this special American place in his photographs. Kudos, Big Joe!

Would you consider a Saratoga wedding? If so, where which venue do you prefer? Let me know in the comments!
