Hey, blog friends! I have a fun post today that is less about brides, grooms, maids, and groomsmen, and more about those other folks who are in attendance on the wedding day…the guests! Depending on the type of wedding you're planning, the attire for your guests will vary greatly. For instance, an afternoon wedding historically dictates a less formal affair, whereas an evening wedding usually reads as black tie.
Now, note that I said “historically.” This isn't always the case. But when you have a wedding or special event and you want to look nice and polished, where do you go to shop for that amazing dress or gown? Now, I have a few really fancy (mostly sparkly) cocktail dresses, but trends change over time and, alas, not everything is as stylish as it once was.
When I'm looking for a new dress for either a charitable event or a wedding (that I'm attending, not working!), I have a few go-to stores locally that I highly recommend. Check them out below…
First, I LOVE Fancy Schmancy (their store just moved from Guilderland to Latham, by the way). As you may remember, Fancy Schmancy provides the styles for our Fashioned by Friendship event (coming up next weekend and we're SOLD OUT–thank you!!!) for the Thomas Patrick Morrison Foundation. Fancy Schmancy has a great selection and a super friendly staff, to boot.
Another location that you might not initially think of for evening attire is located in historic Saratoga Springs–the Bird of Paradise Boutique at Something Bleu Bridal. Denise and her staff are so welcoming and willing to go the extra mile for their customers and they have a fabulous selection of evening wear, as well.
Similarly, Angela's Bridal in downtown Albany has a ready-to-wear line of gowns and dresses for all occasions! You know that Janet Cooper and her staff hold a special place in my heart for all the help they gave me in my quest for my wedding gown…I know they'll be equally excited to help you find a special look for your next event, too!
And for those who don't want to make the committment of purchasing a gown, you can always rent a frock from Rent the Runway! I have so many brides (and friends) who have used this website to find a fabulous look for less! Plus, they send you two sizes of whatever dress you choose and can even (most times) overnight a new dress to you should the one you originally picked out not work for you. Needless to say, I LOVE this sparkly number below!
Where do you like to shop for fancy attire? Let me know in the comments!
