Hello, friends! Long time, no blog…it's been a super busy week here at Katie O' Wedding and Events! Fall wedding season is in full swing and there's no sign of it slowing down. As much as I love it, it's a new experience for me this year as Nate and I are in the throws of our own wedding planning. To be honest, I'm so busy with my brides that planning our own wedding is almost an afterthought–I keep forgetting we need to make decisions!
Like a good planner, I suggested that the first thing Nate and I do (after taking some time to enjoy just being engaged) is make up our guest list. As we considered our families and friends, the list grew and grew. This is important because the size of your guest list often dictates, or at least informs, your venue decision. As I looked over our tentative guest list I was starting to realize that my top venue, the Canfield Casino (see amazing photo below), may not work for our wedding. I was starting to feel a lump in my throat, but didn't want to give up hope. I had a wedding at the Casino a few weeks ago and I asked Nate to come up during the reception to see the venue “in action” with a wedding.
When I got home that night Nate and I discussed the Casino; Nate could tell I was so excited…but he tempered my excitement when he said, “It's an amazing space, but I don't think it's big enough.” Nate knew what I didn't want to (or wasn't prepared to) admit to myself, even though I knew he was totally right. After a day or two, the reality that the Casino would not be our wedding venue set in.
As we travel down this road on our engagement journey, I'm starting to realize that the vision I had in my head might not be our reality…and that's totally OK. But I also realized that as much as the venue matters, what matters most is that I'm marrying my best friend and it's all going to work out just as it should. Once I had this “A-ha!” moment, my planner side kicked in and I became my own client–I love a challenge, you know!
Did your wedding vision mesh with reality? What unexpected challenges did you encounter? Let me know in the comments!
