The Day the Wedding Planner Got Engaged…

So you may have heard by now, but in case you haven't, I'm VERY happy to annouce that I am now engaged to be married! To say that the past few days have been surreal is a total understatement. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've been asked over the years if I was married or had a special someone in my life. I've had a few relationships, but more often than not, I was single and waiting for the right guy to come along. I can say now with 100% certainty that it was worth the wait.

I couldn't have been more surprised, amazed, sparkly, and overwhelmed with emotion and love. My fiance, Nate, contacted our friends at Elario Photography to capture the proposal–and they did so perfectly. I'm still reeling from this moment…and then Joe asked Nate to give me a kiss on my forehead and I pretty much lost it! Any photographer that I've worked with will attest to my love for forehead kisses. I am so incredibly happy.

I still can't believe that after years of helping other couples plan their special day that it's finally my turn! Not to worry, though–I'm still 110% dedicated to my clients!

As if the proposal wasn't a surprise enough, Nate had a few more tricks up his sleeve that day…but that's for another post!

I'm so thankful for the love of my life, Nate, our families and friends, and so grateful for the outpouring of kinds words and congratulations from so many of you. Thank you all! We're so very excited and can't wait to share our wedding planning adventures with you all. But, for now, we're just going to enjoy our engagement while we try to nail down a wedding date!

Saratoga Spotlight: Down the Stretch…

With the Saratoga season winding down and the Travers stakes behind us, what better way to celebrate than a whole blog post dedicated to Saratoga, Katie O' Weddings and Events style! As you know, Saratoga is a major destination for weddings and events, year round. But there's a lot more to the town than just horse racing…

I recently had the opportunity to visit the Saratoga Winery and Tasting Room located in Saratoga Springs, not far from the hustle and bustle of Broadway on Route 29. Owners Rich and Tara Nimmo have been interested in wine and winemaking for some time; Rich's uncle owns a winery in western Pennsylvania and the two learned a lot about the process from working with him. Their interest in wine grew and their hobby became more of a passion as they started blending varietals and adding to their wine cellar. Eventually, they decided to take their interest in wine to the next level and opened the Sartoga Winery and Tasting Room!

During my visit I was able to taste several wines and learned a lot while I was there. The tasting room is amazing and you truly feel like you're out in California wine country! On Fridays they have music and wood fired pizza from 6pm-9pm. SO. FUN. The Saratoga Winery is a great spot for a bridal shower, birthday party or rehearsal dinner! They can also make custom wine labels for your event or wedding!

Looking for Saratoga themed goodies for your Welcome Bags or wedding / party favor? The Spa City comes through with a ton of local items! I love seeing bottled water from Saratoga Water in welcome bags as it lends a sense of place to your event, plus I love the logo and the bottles–especially the sparkling water! Same thing with the delicious Saratoga Potato Chips!

While you may not initially associate olive oil with upstate New York, the Saratoga Olive Oil Company may change your mind. Their award winning olive oils and vinegars make a great wedding favor, too!

Another great wedding favor is a candy apple, chocolates or assorted sweets from the Saratoga Candy Company! It's the perfect sweet treat for your wedding guests!

I hope you enjoyed this Saratoga themed blog in honor of the 150th racing season! What is your favorite thing about Saratoga and the racing season? Would you get married on Travers weekend or in Saratoga during track season? Let me know in the comments!

Bridal Gowns: What’s Hot for Fall 2013

Hey, loyal blog followers! How are you? We’re coming off of an awesome wedding up at Saratoga National this past Saturday. So. Much. Fun. I have the best clients, I tell you! I hope you were out enjoying the awesome weather this past weekend. It was perfect wedding weather!

Back to the blog, I have a fun post for you today looking at what’s trending in wedding fashion this fall. Lots of great styles and a real shift in look and feel for wedding gowns.

From what I’m seeing on the runways, Kate Middleton is still heavily influencing bridal gown designers after her 2011 wedding to Prince William in lace and long sleeves. In fact, I’m seeing a LOT of bridal gowns with sleeves…such a shift from the years of strapless gowns that so many brides favored.

Here’s a gorgeous example from French designer, Cymbeline. This dress, “Havava,” is from their 2014 collection. The lace, the 3/4 length sleeves and the sexy leg slit are all so perfect. Love. Also, if anyone wants to get married in Paris I’m totally there!

Here’s another fabulous gown with lace and sleeves from Romona Keveza’s Spring 2014 collection. This dress is to die for! The silhouette is absoultely stunning and this is a modern update on a timeless gown.

Illusion necklines are also a huge trend in bridal designs right now. This neckline is very demure, but not uptight. I really love this Jenny Yoo dress–Bella–especially the asymmetrical layers of lace and organza. It seems to float!

Amy Kuschel is an American designer based out of San Francisco who prides herself not only on her creative designs, but on the fact that her gowns are made here in the USA. How awesome is that? Blush or nude colors are very on-point right now for bridal gowns and the “Hope” gown combines that with an ethereal quality that lends lightness to this gown. I also love that a percentage of every sale of the “Hope” gown goes towards Breast Cancer research. Win-win.

Last, this Claire Pettibone beauty combines lace, sleeves, and an illusion neckline–three out of four trends! Boom. This dress has a very 1920s feel to me–a little Downton Abby like, I would say!

I hope you enjoyed this peek into the top trends in bridal fashion! What did you wear to your wedding? What dress style are you leaning towards–something classic or will you embrace the trends? Let me know in the comments!
