This year I was lucky enough to have a high school intern from Niskayuna High School, Sarah! Sarah has been with me for several months and has had the opportunity to sit in on consultations and assist me in wedding day itineraries. She finally had the chance to experience her first Katie O’ Wedding (Megan and Rob's Saratoga wedding) and is here to share it with us! Take it away, Sarah!
I recently had the best weekend! I had my first wedding with Katie, and I couldn’t have asked for a better wedding to be on. It was amazing to see a wedding finally come together after months of planning! I LOVED everything about this wedding, from the bride’s dress to the reception venue. I saw first-hand how the wedding day is coordinated.
From Katie: Next up, our gorgeous bride ready to get married! Wow!
My favorite part of the wedding had to be the ceremony. The ceremony took place in a beautiful church in Ballston Spa and the bride looked perfect!
From Katie: Mr. and Mrs!
There were a lot of unexpected details as well, such as going to get chairs from the bridal suite and using them for photos and getting the transportation in the right place at the right time. These were small things, but important things that made the wedding that much better. Overall, I had a great experience and it has made me like the planning process that much better!
From Katie: Amazing flowers by Heavenscent.
From Katie: A little rain never hurt anyone…how romantic is this shot?! Love the Canfield Casino.
From Katie: The first time being introduced as husband and wife!
From Katie: Megan and Rob's moment…
Having the experience of an internship was very important to me. It allowed me to find my interest and what I might possibly have a career in. Wedding and event planning came to me when I participated in a hospitality program at a college–I had never thought about it before, but I thought that might be something that I would be really good at. Through my internship program at school I was able to find Katie O’. This experience has really taught me so much about the event planning industry. I never realized how important organization was in the workplace until I got here. Katie has her binders for every wedding neatly organized on a shelf with all the information for the wedding. Without the organization of the binders she couldn’t be quite as successful as she is now.
I have to say I was never bored working with Katie. Literally, it is something new every day. Nothing is ever the same for each wedding which makes it very interesting. That was what I liked most about the job; it isn’t the same thing and plus you’re not always sitting at your desk. Unfortuately, I didn’t get to go on any site visits; I like to always be moving so that is something I would have really enjoyed.
Through this process I have decided not to become a wedding planner, but I have learned a lot of detail oriented skills that I can apply to several different career options in the future. This is the reason having an internship is so important. It helped me to decide what will be best for my future!
Thanks again to my intern, Sarah, for her honest assessment of her KOWE internship! I loved having her help me out and I'm glad I was able to help her find her path! (Sorry for the low-res image–where's JP Elario when you need him?!) This pic was taken as we celebrated Sarah's last day at KOWE with FroYo from Dante's of course! Did you have an internship? Let me know in the comments!
